Curriculum vitae

In 2007 he was one of the co-founders of Schmeling + Consultants GmbH in Heidelberg. His work focuses on methodical standardization and structuring in technical communication, the optimization of authoring and information processes, and questions regarding the legal compliance of technical documentation.

After completing his diploma studies in molecular physics and several years of research and teaching work at the University of Bielefeld in the areas of philosophy of language and logic (v. Savigny, Bieri), he switched to technical documentation in 1999 and worked for six years as a consultant and as a team leader and project manager at a large service company for technical communication and documentation. There he was technically responsible for the Technical Documentation department (approx. 30 employees) in the areas of analysis, concept development, training and legal compliance.

From 2005 to 2007, he worked as the deputy director of DocLab, the inspection authority for technical documentation at TÜV SÜD, and was responsible for the testing program DocCert. He is furthermore a specialist certifier and auditor of TÜV SÜD for technical authoring. Since 2004 he has been a lecturer for quality assurance in technical documentation at Furtwangen University in the training of graduate industrial engineers.

After completing his studies in German, history and philosophy at the University of Tübingen, he worked as a freelance consultant for technical documentation and as a managing partner of Tanner Consulting GmbH, starting in 1990. In 1997 he was appointed a professor of technical documentation and usability engineering at Furtwangen University, where he has been dean of the Faculty of Engineering Management since 1 September 2010. Among other things, he manages the usability laboratory there.

In 2007 he was one of the co-founders of Schmeling + Consultants GmbH in Heidelberg.

Curriculum vitae

Since 2007, she has been consulting at SCHMELING + CONSULTANTS with a focus on structuring and standardization in technical communication as well as methods and fields of application for language technologies. Her motivation is the sound further development of standardization and structuring methods for technical communication.

After competing her diploma studies in documentation and communication in 2003 she started working as a consultant at a well-known vendor of authoring systems. There she initially worked in the area of information analysis and structuring, based on the Funktionsdesign® (functional design) method, among other things. She was also responsible for the area of product training and authoring coaching. She is a lecturer at Furtwangen University for information and communication technology in the training of industrial engineers (bachelor).

Since September 2016, Marco Hattemer has been working as a consultant at SCHMELING + CONSULTANTS in the area of "Efficient Management of Product Information." He focuses on process analyses in presales, catalog design, selection and implementation of PIM systems, and improving the quality of product data.

In his work he combines analytical methods and structured process models from information management with his extensive experience as a project manager and system user. His goal is to find the optimal solution for his customers. After he finished his diploma in process technology and biotechnology and the Fachhoschcshule Bingen, he spent ten years as a consultant and project manager at a well-known service providers in the technical documentation and content management fields. In addition to the rollout, implementation, and further development of XML-based authoring systems, as a project manager and system user, he led a variety of documentation projects that were part of the authoring systems he implemented.

Since 2008, he was been working intensively on the efficient management of presales information and product data in PIM systems. He further developed his expertise as a team lead in professional services and consultant at a southern German system provider. His many years of experience in product information management includes the complete project lifecycle, from analysis and design, through the implementation of new systems and migration of data, and on to user training and the creation and optimization of user-group oriented information products for various marketing channels.

For many years he was an assistant lecturer at the Fachhochschule Furtwangen and was a guest speaker at the Fachhochschule Karlsruhe.

Since February 2019 she has been employed as a consultant at SCHMELING + CONSULTANTS. In addition to specializing in the structuring and standardization of technical documentation, she wants to distinguish herself in the fields of medical devices, instruction videos and training for technical editors.

In March 2016, she successfully completed her Bachelor's degree in International Communication and Translation with English and French and the elective subject Technology at the University of Hildesheim. She then studied at the same university for a Master's degree in International Communication - Languages and Technology. In addition to her master's degree, she worked for one year as a student trainee in the technical editing department of a well-known technology group. She therefore has a wide range of linguistic and technical knowledge. Until December 2018 she wrote her Master's thesis with the topic "Requirements for editorial guidelines with Funktionsdesign®" at SCHMELING + CONSULTANTS.
